PEDALO – Për Fqinjësi të Mirë

PEDALO - Për Fqinjësi të Mirë (ENG: Pedal - For Good-Neighborliness)

This multifaceted project was driven by three overarching goals, each aiming to foster progress and unity within the Kosovar and Albanian communities. Firstly, it sought to champion the free movement of all Kosovar citizens across neighboring countries. Secondly, it endeavored to spotlight sports as a timeless conduit for social cohesion, notably exemplified by the participation of cyclists aged over 60. Lastly, it aimed to cultivate collaboration among Albanian municipalities, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared purpose.

Building upon the tireless efforts of dedicated cyclists, whose endeavors were staunchly supported by esteemed figures such as President Hashim Thaçi and former Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports Memli Krasniqi, this initiative has left an indelible mark across Europe. From traversing the bustling streets of Brussels to the quaint corners of France, Germany, Luxembourg, and Italy, these cyclists have tirelessly advocated for the unrestricted movement of Kosovars within the European Union.

In continuation of this noble cause, NGO Me Dhe Për Sportin orchestrated a mini-tour across neighboring territories, excluding Serbia due to its discriminatory policies towards Kosovars. The focal points of this tour include Tuzi, Tirana, and Kërçova, each encapsulating unique narratives of Albanian resilience and unity. Tuzi, under the leadership of its first Albanian governor since integration into Montenegro, symbolizes a beacon of progress. Tirana, revered as the capital of all Albanians, serves as a testament to collective identity and aspiration. Meanwhile, Kërçova’s appointment of an Albanian governor after nearly a century stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Albanian people.

Departing from the heart of Kosovo, Pristina, this journey symbolizes not only a physical expedition but also a spiritual pilgrimage, embracing all Albanian territories in its embrace.

Beyond its explicit objectives, this project serves as a catalyst for broader societal change, igniting a passion for outdoor sports and physical activity among a wider audience. Cycling, hailed as the epitome of civilized transport, has not only empowered women in our communities but also instilled a sense of confidence and autonomy. In this way, it serves as a vehicle for empowerment and societal progress, transcending geographical boundaries and cultural divides.

Moreover, beyond its immediate goals, this project serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future initiatives aimed at promoting inclusivity and unity. By weaving together the diverse tapestry of Kosovar and Albanian communities, it fosters a sense of camaraderie and mutual support, laying the groundwork for collaborative endeavors across various spheres. As these cyclists pedal through the scenic landscapes of neighboring countries, their journey serves as a powerful metaphor for resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity. It reminds us that, despite the challenges that may lie ahead, unity and determination can pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
